A GUIDE ON WHEN TO BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT
The Pain Scale gives you a clearer way to assign your pain a number. The pain scale rates pain intensity from 0 no pain to 10 pain of the highest intensity. Sometimes a number (or range) can help us make a better decision. On this scale, pain of high intensity (Acute Pain) runs from 7-10, pain of medium intensity and/or daily frequency (Chronic Pain) runs about 3 - 7, and low grade pain or even no pain at all (Wellness) runs about 0 - 2. Knowing your approximate pain scale number or range can help you decide your visit frequency. Use this with the chart below…
Your Visit Frequency may become clearer now that you have a number or range! For Acute Pain, your visit frequency typically runs from weekly sessions to a session about every 2 weeks until your pain scale is 7 or less. A session about every 2 - 3 weeks is typically recommended for chronic pain sufferers. Wellness clients generally go see Dr Peters every 4 - 6 weeks. Frequency may change in times of extra stress. For example, moving can be stressful to the mind and body, test taking may create anxiety and prolonged sitting can create physical stress too.
Of course, personal recommendations are made upon each visit with Dr Tony. However, we know that things can get in the way, so we hope the above information can help you decide when to make an appointment.
There are typically 3 (three) phases of care you may receive. Phase 1 (one) is ACUTE care or relief care where the main goal is to get you out of pain as soon as possible. It mostly consists of passive care which means Dr Peters does all the work (ha ha). Technically speaking, passive care consists of the application of techniques and modalities on the client while the client is receiving the care. The goal of this phase is to get the pain about 70% better.
Phase 2 (two) is considered CORRECTIVE care because the pain has subsided (about 20% - 30%) and the tissues of the body are being addressed for longer lasting change. It includes mostly passive care with the start of active care. Active care means that Dr Peters will begin using movement training (exercise, stretches, etc) and it involves you doing some work to help your self safely and correctly.
WELLNESS CARE is the 3rd (third) Phase and its the goal of about 80% of our clients. Self care and prevention are the goals of this phase. Pain is low and managed, or non-existent, and visits may include a mostly active prevention-based approach with passive care to maintain progress.
