Your Insurance: They Don't Take Us, Not We Don't Take Them
The truth of the matter when it came down to making a big decision to stop in-house insurance billing for clients was, that in reality, we were open to “taking or accepting” insurance, but typically the insurance companies wouldn’t “take us”. You see we were open to providing care to clients , do the paperwork per each agreement, collect copays, file for payment, wait, wait some more, and pray. However, due to highly restricted and limiting contractual obligations and mandates by insurance companies (most likely made by decision makers more familiar with numbers than clinical skills and experience) our care would likely have been non-efficient, unproductive, and expensive for us and our clients. With the ever growing responsibility of costs given to the insurance client via high deductibles and non-covered services, filing would have cost our client more out of pocket than the cost of our time-of-service care.
An example is when a client had a high deductible of $1000 or even more. Typically a number not reached early in the year. Due to fee agreements with insurance companies, the total in fees for each service provided on a typical visit would have been about $250 - $350. The client would have to pay this and in some cases due to the nature of our progressive care model, the care “not covered” would be the client’s responsibility. For example, if client copay was $50-70, and insurance only covered/paid $100 of covered services, then client would be on the hook for another $80 to $100 for each visit! Hence, this would create a situation where we would have to bill clients for balances due on their account. Our time-of-service fees were and are still less cost! Regular fees $89 to $179 with no restrictions. So you can see that for us and our clients, filing insurance does not make sense.
So, whether you have insurance or not, we hope you consider the big picture. Less admin requires less overhead and costs, our fees are available upfront and transparent, and we have greater autonomy in choosing treatments that can best serve each individual client without insurance restrictions. All of this means more efficient care, better results, and less costs for all. In fact, we believe that this model allows for better and more lasting results, and in the long run save time and money for the client.
